Dishwasher High Loop

A dishwasher missing a high drain loop is one of the most common defects I see during an inspection and one of the easiest defects to correct.
As the name implies the dish washer drain hose must be attached to the underside of the counter top before connecting to the sink tail piece or the food grinder. The high loop must be used to prevent potential back flow contamination of the dishwasher in the event of a clogged drain. In the absence of a high drain loop water backing up into the sink from a clogged drain could also be emptying into the dishwasher.

Even though dishwashers come from the factory with the drain looped up high against the side or back of the dishwasher, this is not an acceptable substitute for the high loop underneath the kitchen sink. The additional high loop in the back of the dishwasher is required for proper draining.
